We all care about our ability to express our expertise and improve our job performance. Knowing how to present ourselves and our ideas, especially in critical situations, is one of the most useful skills any professional can cultivate. An emerging use of AI chatbots among professionals in a variety of industries is that of the coach, which can help us remember what we know, incorporate new ideas, and communicate all of this effectively. Let’s explore three powerful ways to use an AI-powered coach to give your work (and yourself) an upgrade.
Prepare yourself for interactions.
Your AI chatbot can play the role of a coach, helping to prepare you for a performance review, a presentation, or even a job interview. Give your AI Coach a list of your accomplishments and ask it to prompt you to help you think of more. It will help you craft a compelling narrative about your work activities, feed you potential questions and answers, and structure your presentations to achieve their maximum impact. By simulating real-life scenarios, providing constructive feedback, and offering actionable advice, your AI Coach becomes an invaluable tool for refining your delivery and building your confidence for real world interactions. Ask your coach to create a script that you can while it analyzes information and metrics that you provide in your prompt. You will be amazed how much it can help as you approach high-stakes situations with a new level of clarity and poise.
Evaluate your performance.
Your AI Coach can help you gain new perspectives on how you are doing. Give your AI Coach the list of your activities that represent your job performance and then a list of your stated job responsibilities. Ask it to evaluate what you’ve done and offer suggestions as if it were your supervisor (asking your AI Coach to act within a persona such as a “permanency supervisor” or “foster care director” is a great way to get these results). You can even freely include details that you may not feel 100% confident in sharing with your supervisor, knowing that you will get a non-judgmental (or strongly judgmental, if you prefer) response. Not only will you get used to seeing yourself as a supervisor might, but you can also get help with problems that are specific to your job role without having to share these details with any human.
Motivate yourself.
The daily work of any professional can be taxing, which may sometimes even cause us to lose sight of our “why” – the inspiration for doing our chosen work. Child welfare professional roles can expose you to many emotionally taxing situations along with many mundane tasks that are nonetheless important to the daily work. When motivation and energy are low you can use your AI Coach to remind you about the importance of your work and your role within a larger context. Simply ask “what would happen to my community if I wasn’t here to fulfill my role?” or “what are the most compelling reasons for continuing to do the work that I do?”. Ask it to give you a motivating speech that is tailored in the style of (your favorite real world motivator) and watch your AI Coach help you remember your purpose in doing your work with as much “imagination” as you want to get from it, doing so tirelessly as you continue to prompt it.
These are just a few ways that we can use AI to improve our own human performance, which is a critical part of child welfare work. Our AI Coaches can prepare us for tasks, evaluate our performance, and even motivate us, which creates in us a habit of improvement that will extend to those we serve. In this way, AI can help us become more confident, reflective, and effective in our roles, amplifying our humanity and enabling us to create better outcomes for children and families.
